RE-FLORIS was made for the rooms, paintings and sculptures of Villa Suruton. The Sawotta Choir’s polyphonic singing, saxophone and spoken narration accompanied visitors through an exhibition by Katariina Lahti, Risto Puutio and Maya Rygaard. Listening and looking unfolded together as visitors moved between the artworks.
A ROUTE THROUGH THE GALLERY
The choral work RE-DITUS provided the foundation. At Villa Suruton, the material was arranged around the theme of renewed blossoming and the changing surroundings of the gallery. A 20-channel sound installation was recorded binaurally and heard through wireless headphones. The narration guided visitors between rooms, drawing attention to the art and the space.
The route ended on the balcony, where recorded night sounds met the real sounds around the gallery. The headphone experience brought a composed listening space into a shared exhibition, allowing the paintings and sculptures to remain part of the encounter.
