LUONTO SISÄLLÄNI – NATURE WITHIN ME (OPEN STUDIO) @ KIISU Theater, OUTOKUMPU RESIDENCY

Nature Within Me is an interactive installation by sound and media artist Jaakko Autio, featuring generative video art, music, and a performance where the artist himself meditates in the Kiisu Theatre throughout the event. In the artwork “Nature Within Me,” Autio guides video art in real-time using EEG technology, which translates his brainwaves into visuals. Artificial intelligence draws images based on Autio’s brainwaves in real-time on the 5 x 9 meter wall of the Kiisu theater. The artist acts as the medium for the situation. Through the artist’s nervous system, the visitors and the event manifest into a visual representation within the artwork. Pastilles are available in the space, and the hope is that visitors will enjoy their time while the pastille melts in their mouth.

The artwork begins the moment a visitor enters the space. There is no beginning or end to the artwork. Additionally, the artwork features meditative music composed by Autio, recorded during the residency in Outokumpu in January 2022.

Luonto Sisälläni on ääni- ja mediataiteilija Jaakko Aution interaktiivinen installaatio, joka sisältää generatiivista videotaidetta, musiikkia sekä performanssin, jossa taiteilija itse meditoi Kiisu-teatterissa tapahtuman ajan. Luonto Sisälläni -teoksessa Autio ohjaa EEG-teknologialla eli aivokäyrillään videotaidetta reaaliaikaisesti. Keinoäly piirtää Aution aivokäyristä kuvia reaaliajassa Kiisu-hallin seinälle 10 x 10 metrin kokoisena. Taiteilija toimii itse tilanteen johdattimena. Taiteilijan hermoston kautta teoksen vierailijat ja tapahtuma piirtyvät teoksen visuaaliseksi kuvaksi. Tilassa on tarjolla pastilleja, ja toiveena on, että tilassa viihdytään sen ajan, kun pastilli sulaa suussa.

Teos alkaa siitä hetkestä, kun vierailija astuu tilaan sisään. Teoksella ei ole alkua eikä loppua. Teoksessa kuullaan myös Aution säveltämää meditatiivista musiikkia, joka äänitettiin Outokummun residenssissä tammikuussa 2022.

Vierailu Outokummun residenssissä on Autiolle kolmas. Aikaisemmin hän on toteuttanut Karbidiin monikanavaisia yhteisöllisiä ääni-installaatioita. Autio on aktiivinen toimija Suomen nykytaiteen kentällä. Hänen töitään on ollut esillä 2023 muun muassa Oulun ja Joensuun taidemuseoissa, Vene-teatterissa Tallinnassa, Montoro12-galleriassa Brysselissä, Helsingin Malmitalon galleriassa, Olohuone-festivaaleilla Turussa, Volter Kilven Kustavissa kirjallisuusviikoilla ja Museosaari Aholansaaressa. Lisäksi Aution ja Hilla Väyrysen ääni-installaatio on koettavissa Outokummun kirjastossa 1.3.2024 saakka.

Nature Within invites people to rest in a state of beauty and interconnectedness.

Candys are available in the space, and the hope is that visitors will enjoy their time as the candy melts in their mouth.

Schedule: Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 16:00-16:45, 17:00-17:45, and 18:00-19:00.

The performer will take two breaks during the performance: from 16:45-17:00 and 17:45-18:00.

The Kiisu hall is not heated, so dressing warmly is advisable. Entrance is from the sports field side. Outdoor fires welcome visitors. The artwork begins the moment visitors enter the space. There is no beginning or end to the artwork. Autio’s acoustic meditative music, recorded at the Outokumpu residency in January 2022, is also heard in the artwork.

Autio’s visit to the Outokumpu residency is his third. Previously, he has implemented multi-channel community sound installations at Karbidi. Autio is an active figure in the field of contemporary art in Finland. His works have been exhibited in 2023, including at the Oulu and Joensuu Art Museums, the Vene Theater in Tallinn, the Montoro12 Gallery in Brussels, the Helsinki Malmitalo Gallery, the Olohuone Festival in Turku, the Volter Kilpi Literary Week in Kustavi, and the Museum Island Aholansaari. In addition, Autio and Hilla Väyrynen’s sound installation can be experienced at the Outokumpu Library until March 1, 2024.
