Nomad Vocals sings Silent Love by Mia Makaroff Inspired by the poem Love’s Secret by William Blake:
“Never seek to tell thy love, Love that never told can be; For the gentle wind doth move Silently, invisibly. I told my love, I told my love, I told her all my heart, Trembling, cold, in ghastly fears. Ah! she did depart! Soon after she was gone from me, A traveller came by, Silently, invisibly: He took her with a sigh.”.
In these unusual times of social isolation even the smallest gestures of love can generate hope and a sense of community. Though the original poem says rather sombrely to never seek to tell one’s love, lest that love be taken away, Mia Makaroff beautifully transforms that sentiment to a more wistful one: that of loving silently, unselfishly, undemandingly, even if from a distance, even if you can not be sure your love will ever be reciprocated. A sentiment that all too well mirrors many of our feelings in the midst of this pandemic. We created this virtual performance to share what little we can, be it silent love or not so silent song of love. Everything was recorded in the solitude our separate homes around Finland and, in one significant case, Hong Kong. We hope you enjoy this video.
